Food deserts are defined as parts of the country vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful whole foods, usually found in impoverished areas. This is largely due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and healthy food providers.
Food deserts are not only seen in low-resource settings globally. They are also present in our backyard right here in North Carolina.
This video highlights the need for creative and team-based initiatives to help address inequities across both global and local communities to improve health.
